Knots Elementals: Discover living life as nature intended

essential oil christmas event

For us to look after ourselves in the best manner possible then an integrated approach to our own well being has to be a sensible course of action to follow. You can get the most from modern medical practice and then augment that with all manner of alternative healing mediums that appeal and that you respond to.
In my toolkit over the years I have extensively dipped into aromatherapy, reiki, flower remedies, acupuncture, reflexology, cranial sacral, chiropractic and herbal methods to help keep myself in a state of balance.
If you feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of treatment options out there send me a lock of hair or a photo of yourself and I will do a kinesiology test and determine for you what therapies you are best suited to plus an overview of your general state of wellbeing.
Call me if you want more details and then dip your toes into the alternative arena for a new world of possiblities for yourself, your children and your animals.

Our noses are indeed the source of much excitement. Some of or oldest and most laden memories are associated with odours. A particular perfume or long forgotten scent can immediately conjure up senses and emotions of the past.

Our olfactory epithelium contains 5 million olfactory neurons and on these neutrons there are between 500 and 1000 individual receptor proteins.  The olfactory area of the brain lies deep within the limbic system which contains the Hypothalamus which in turn is connected to the pituitary gland. It is through this association the the Hypothalmus affects bodily functioning by its influence on the autonomic nervous and endocrine systems.  Not just a physical influence the lim ice system also affects the emotional aspects of behaviour.  Pain, pleasure, anger, rage, fear, sorrow, affection, sexuality can be released, heightened or subdued.

Sniff a particular essential oil or blend of oils and neurotransmitters such as encephalitis, endorphins, seratonin and noradrenalin are released in the limbic system by odour stimuli.  Depending on their range of influence these can help to reduce pain, relax, calm, stimulate, sedate, awaken and create feelings of euphoria or wellbeing.

Here lies the basis of the art of aromatherapy  they directly influence the body’s own systems and also offer their well documented actions be it antibacterial or anti fungal etc.

Come sniff my essential oils for yourself and be tantalised by their power  they are special friends and well worth meeting

the clock ticks on regardless…….I am mindful of getting older but more mindful of the danger of shutting down my world.  A year on from a minor yet impactful injury I realise I have narrowed my horizons in a too many ways. This autumn is for stretching out the boundaries and embracing fullness and feeling the stretch right to my finger tips!  The people in Ebola stricken countries are feeling restrictions in every way in their lives and are being threatened not just by the virus itself but by the very core of their existence.  Fear is a very invasive enemy and it is easy to have it get hold of you instead of making it your ally.  We have at our fingertips some mighty powerful allies which are potent anti viral friends.  Ravensara which comes from Madagascar is the most anti viral essential oil known and a daily bath or shower can lend us good protection against any lurking virus.  We can always learn from the past and it was from the North American Indians that Western medicine learned to use echinacea as an immune booster and it is now a staple of many household medicine cabinets.  We have the ability to help ourselves as maybe many do not  so let us embrace what is available to preserve good health.  Aromatics have always played a role in the maintenance of health and this notion has never been devalued.  So while I am stretching out and reaching some of my shut down parts I am making use of my aromatics allies so that I can feel vital and alive again!!  The Christmas show at Tobias and the Angel starts on 26th November and I invite you to come and sniff our aromatics friends to delight your olfactory senses and feel great!

It seems almost appropriate that I should be driven to make a signature scent for knots at the very time that I have a broken wrist. Well, to be frank it is no longer broken thanks to a little help from our handy medicine cabinet heroes arnica and comfrey,  it is in recovery mode.

Inspired  by thoughts of gold, frankincense and myrrh,  I have concocted a complex mix of neroli, petitgrain, oriental spices, sandalwood for deep resonance and myrtle which harks far back in time to a then famous skin tonic called Angel water.  I have been told it is addictive!  Maybe …. It is definitely warm, protective, soothing,  calming and yet uplifting to the spirit – a scent tonic to be worn as the mood takes you, timeless and happy to rub along well with woman or man.  For extra power I have indulged in my passion for vibrational remedies and added them to the pot as well.  So a scent packed with plant power.  Very exciting!

My pop up shop will appear as if by magic on 20th November at Tobias and the Angel and knots signature will make its debut.  Always happy to share time with any of you who might come along.  White Hart Lane is also making its first appearance at the show and joining in with guns blazing.  It will be fun.

Busy filling glorious bottles and jars and adding ribbons galore to make a festive splash.  Despite a very tough few months I am full of optimism for the coming year.    Here’s wishing you all that is good!

Unbelievable but true my pop-up shop will once again magically arrive at Tobias and the Angel on Wednesday 21st November.  All courtesy of the lovely Angel who lends me her back room  so that I can share in her famous  Christmas show which is now in its 27th year and  expectant shoppers still form a queue for the opening!

Excitement still bubbles up when my large slate table starts heaving with all manner of preparations in the making from rosé otto soap hand wrapped in handblock printed Yateley paper and then tied with lovely old silk deep brown chocolate thread  to intense shots of neroli, sandalwood for pure pleasure from the best of nature’s larder.  Shampoos, shower gels, bathing preparations, creams and scrubs are  filled in to bottles and jars, some new but many  antique and collected over the year to create something extra special!

From my collections of over 150 essential oils I indulge in blending seemingly unusual concoctions but just like cooking and baking the results can be surprising and open up new scents to delight the olefactory senses.  My Christmas blend o May Chang and Frankincense is a good example of this and brings together an unexpected blend of warmth and yet a touch of tangy orange.  Very enticing!

Come and join me if you can to sample the scents on display – you will be warmly welcomed or, if you fancy, you can have your own time in my home putting together your  Christmas gifts for your family and friends.  You can sit around the slate table yourself and we can do a fun session cooking in a whole new way

Wishing you happy days ahead

Barbara

Going  up the gallops I suddenly got a sense of autumn and despite a strange summer of warm but not necessarily very sunny days I have enjoyed the lingering daylight hours and, in particular, the vegetable patch and the biggest gourgette plant you have ever seen.  It is prolific and very satisfying.

I have seen our frog three times and got a good picture of him.  He is happy and settled in  his wee pond.  Autumn smacks  of harvest and abundance and in that vein I bring to mind my new collaboration with Pacific Essences and their essence Abundance.  Use to connect with the larger flow of life , for infinite possibilities and to alleviate self doubt.  Participate fully in the adventure of life by gently releasing limiting attitudes.

The frog is known to be the herald of abundance and fertility – it is also deeply connected with water and the energy of the moon and yesterday was a blue moon.  This autumn let’ s call forth for fresh possibilities in our lives and look at diving into fresh waters to cleanse, heal  and help things grow and to stir new blood into our veins.  Earth element with lovely notes of coriander, cardamon, frankincense, sandalwood and peppermint will keep the feet on the ground with all this raised activity.

Enjoy the feast!

Here we are again in damp soggy conditions trying to pretend that the warmth of the sun is just ever round the corner. I look a bit pale and needy of sun as these are not the dark days but supposed to be summer!! I am indulging in lots of sunshine essential oils to keep the spirits up as I do not want to feel seasonally affected in the summer but struggling a little. So out have come my mandarin collection, my petitgrains, the lovely florals like rose and jasmin and all is good with the world.

The tadpoles are struggling and still very small − I was excited at the thought of my own tiny tadpoles growing up in the equally tiny pond − there are four of them with back legs now − but they are not as far on as they should be. However, i check them out daily and all seems good with them despite lack of expansive growth. Slugs are everywhere and we have not managed to grow a single lettuce but at least we dug up the first of our potatoes yesterday and will be enjoying them with some broad beans.

I went to Canada for two weeks which was an amazing journey for me and I joined up with Pacific Essences as their UK distributor. Not an obvious move for me but one I am very excited about as I have used these vibrational remedies for about eight years and have much time for them. The journey is bound to be an eventful one and I welcome talking to any new people who find me because of this new alliance.

I hope you enjoy my updated website − at the very least the ordering process is much easier even if I have not quite got to the online shopping cart yet. Watch this space as hopefully that will materialise before the end of Autumn. All in good time…

Barbara
